Gowanus Girls Market

Last weekend, my sister-in-law, 2 nieces & myself ventured down to Gowanus Grove to check out the 2nd weekend of Gowanus Girls - a new market put on by Curious Jane - an after-school & summer camp program promoting young girls & creativity.

It was super cool! My seller friends Jackie from LoveJac & Sarah from Love of Pretty were both there. The weather was kind of icky as the first signs of Hurricane Sandy started rolling in, but the spot is adorable. Check it out...

The entrance is totally unassuming. But then...

...Ta da! How cute is this place?! No wonder one of my girlfriends called their first weekend "magical." The spot is adorable.

We made a bee line for kids' the crafts table. This is my SIL, Libby with my nieces, Margaux, 5, & Molly, 3, making a fall-themed mobile with instructors from the Curious Jane after-school program.

One of the many reason we went is to see my friend Sarah from Love of Pretty. She was a fellow seller at The Dekalb Market. We made a deal - my design services for her jewelry. More on the pieces of hers that I picked later...These jewelry boxes mark the first of our collaborations. LOVE the way they turned out.

I should totally have gotten a better picture of Sarah's booth! And one of Jac's! Sorry girls. I had nieces on the brain...

The list of vendors covered SO many categories, including food, which you can see in the back here. There was a pulled pork vendor which you all will be totally shocked to hear that I did not go to. I know...and they were rumored to be from NC. What was I thinking?!

There was live music. I'm sorry to report that I did not find out who this is, but she has a lovely voice. The acoustic tunes very much fit the venue.

Another shot of the grove. Just a charming little area in the middle of the warehouse district.

Unfortunately, after our mega storm the last two days, I've seen bad things about Gowanus on Twitter & Facebook, like this one. Unless you live under a rock, you know the NYC area was devastated over the last few days. We live on a hill in Brooklyn Heights so we were very lucky - only losing our cable last night...as I was writing this post actually...

That's the news to now! Hope everyone is well & safe after this crazy storm!
